Investigators are trying to determine a motive after a 24-year-old soccer player was found murdered in Metro Vancouver.

Today (January 28), the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) revealed details about the death of Edi Bogere-Nyigwo.

At 7 p.m. on December 27, Bogere-Nyigwo was seen for the last time when he was leaving his home in Coquitlam.

On January 11, officers located an unidentified body in a vacant forested property in the 24500 block of Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge. The victim was later confirmed to be Bogere-Nyigwo.

Although investigators suspect the murder was targeted, they don’t believe that it is connected to any gang conflicts.

“We don’t believe Edi’s death was random,” IHIT Sgt. Frank Jang stated in a news release. “We believe there are still those with important information who have yet to speak with us.  Edi was a talented soccer player and a member of Coquitlam’s Sparta SC U-18 squad that won the Canadian National Championship.  His friends describe him as someone who avoided trouble and many are wondering why anyone would harm him.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact IHIT on its information line at 1-877-551- 4448 or by email. To remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
