A collision in the Downtown Eastside has resulted in Vancouver’s second pedestrian fatality of the year.

Around 2:30 p.m. today (February 6), a female pedestrian in her 60s was crossing the street at Powell Street and Jackson Avenue when a cement truck struck her near Oppenheimer Park.

Although ambulance services arrived at the scene, paramedics were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead. Her identity has not been released.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

Investigators don’t believe speed and alcohol are contributing factors to the collision.

Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage in the area at the time of the collision is asked to contact the VPD at 604-717-3012.
