A male suspect who had been defrauding victims of rental deposits in Langley is now facing multiple charges.

In November, Langley RCMP stated that an investigation had begun in June after a male suspect had been defrauding individuals of money as a purported deposit on a rental property that wasn’t actually available for rent.

A victim found a rental property advertised on a classifieds website and arranged to meet with the contact individual to view the property. The contact met with the victim at a nearby coffee shop, and explained that that there were tenants currently in the residence who would be evicted once new tenants were named.

The victim provided money for the first month’s rent. However, after a few days, the victim noticed that the property was still advertised as available for rent and realized that it was a fraud scheme.

Investigators identified a suspect and arrested 37-year-old Jordan Lunny of Langley, who was charged on November 26 with fraud and providing a misleading receipt.

On February 4, Langley RCMP stated that Lunny is now facing additional charges for a total of 19 counts of fraud.

He is next scheduled to appear in Surrey provincial court on February 20.
