Plane crash discovered during search for missing man from Merritt, B.C.

      A search for a missing man from Merritt led to the discovery of a plane crash early this morning.

      Southeast District B.C. RCMP stated in a news release today (February 10) that at 12:14 a.m. this morning, Merritt RCMP received a report about a missing man in his 60s from Merritt.

      The investigation led an officer to the Merritt Airport where he found the wreckage of a small white and green plane on the tarmac.

      When the officer found the missing man trapped inside the single-occupant aircraft, he called for assistance from the Merritt Fire Departments and B.C. Emergency Health Services.

      Emergency crews extricated the pilot from the wreckage and he was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

      RCMP have notified Transport Canada about the incident.
