According to Statistics Canada, the median age in this country is 40.8 years old.

But there are also 6.6 million Canadians over the age of 65 and 1.6 million million over the age of 80.

Today, Vancouver East NDP MP Jenny Kwan wants to hear about the challenges that seniors are facing at a town hall meeting.

Kwan and the 411 Seniors Centre Society are hosting the event at the 411 Seniors Centre (704–333 Terminal Avenue) at 1 p.m.

Over the decades, the 411 Seniors Society has focused a great deal of attention on trying to improve conditions for seniors, including older women, who are living in poverty.

Meanwhile, the Ontario Human Rights Commission has identified several specific issues facing older persons, including employment, housing, health care, institutions and service, elder abuse and neglect, elder care, and permissible distinctions based on age.
