Richmond roads shut down near Walmart during police incident

      A police incident in Richmond during rush hour caused heavy traffic congestion after roads were shut down.

      Richmond RCMP stated at 5:03 p.m. on Twitter that a police incident was taking place near Alderbridge Way and Garden City Road in Richmond.

      Police asked the public to avoid the area as roads were being closed as the investigation was under way.

      At 5:18 p.m., Richmond RCMP tweeted that the incident had ended and that the roads would be reopened.

      Although RCMP did not state what the incident entailed, News 1130 reported that it took place at Walmart Richmond (9251 Alderbridge Way) and that the store had been evacuated. Richmond News reported that there were five to six police cars at the Walmart shortly after 4 p.m.

      News 1130 reported that police have arrested a male suspect, who had barricaded himself inside the store with bladed weapons. There are no reports of anyone being injured.
