The pursuit of two male suspects led police from several Lower Mainland detachments on an investigation across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley last week, and culminated with a vehicle in a pond.

Upper Fraser Valley RCMP stated today (February 24) that the investigation began around 11 p.m. on February 18, Chilliwack RCMP received a report about a suspicious truck parked at a housing complex in the 45000 block of Luckakuck Way in Chilliwack.

Investigators determined the truck was a vehicle reported to Kelowna RCMP as stolen.

The investigation led to a parking lot in New Westminster where the occupants abandoned the first truck and exchanged it for a second vehicle that was allegedly stolen.

Officers continued on to Langley where the truck collided with a Chilliwack RCMP police vehicle before it sped away.

Police chased and arrested a 27-year-old man from Calgary who was running away from the vehicle on foot.

Then the Abbotsford Police Department located the suspect vehicle on Clearbrook Road. After the vehicle failed to stop for police, it crashed into a pond.

Police arrested the driver, a 25-year-old man from Calgary.

The 27-year-old male, James Chartrand, is charged with breach of a release order.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Sebastian Thomas Tait faces several charges: possession of property over $5,000 (motor vehicle) obtained by crime, dangerous operation of a conveyance, failure to stop for police, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, and two counts of failure to comply with condition of release.

Both men remain in custody and will appear in Surrey provincial court on March 6.
