A bizarre incident involving a man throwing rocks and objects at passing vehicles on a Metro Vancouver bridge has resulted in the arrest of a murder suspect wanted on a national warrant.

Ridge Meadows RCMP stated today (February 25) that around 5:15 p.m. on February 20, several drivers contacted police by phone about a man throwing rocks and other items at vehicles driving on the Golden Ears Bridge, which connects Langley with Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

The callers were able to provide clear descriptions of the suspect.

An officer located the suspect and tried to make contact with him, but heavy rush-hour traffic made it difficult for the officer to approach and communicate with him.

The suspect then jumped over the sidewalk barricade and began walking in the middle of moving traffic.

In order to prevent the suspect from being hit by vehicles, the officer ran across three lanes of traffic and pushed the suspect to safety. The officer then arrested the suspect for mischief.

The suspect was discovered to be Richard Joseph Lacarte who is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant from Edmonton for second-degree murder from a 2014 investigation.

The suspect remains in custody and is being transported to Edmonton for court processes.
