When officers stopped a car in Surrey for distracted driving, officers discovered several items related to the local drug trade.

Today (February 28), Surrey RCMP stated that at 3 p. m. on February 27, officers conducting distracted-driving enforcement pulled over a Nissan Sentra at 152nd Street and Fraser Highway in Surrey.

The driver allegedly was using a cell phone while driving.

However when officers approached the vehicle, one passenger fled on foot while another passenger appeared to be attempting to conceal items.

When police searched the vehicle, they found several items related to drug trafficking, including suspected methamphetamines packaged for resale on the street, suspected Codeine tablets, drug paraphernalia, and a small amount of counterfeit Canadian currency.

Officers seized the vehicle as offence-related property and arrested the driver and passenger in the vehicle.

Police are still searching for the third occupant who left the vehicle.

The investigation remains ongoing and the identities of the individuals have not been revealed as charges haven’t been laid yet.

Several notable police seizures of drugs and weapons have taken recently place in Surrey, including seizing over 30 kilograms of cocaine in November and a major drug-trafficking bust involving the B.C. anti-gang unit on January 20
