An 89-year-old Japanese tourist who only speaks a little English and has dementia has gone missing while in Downtown Vancouver.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) announced today (March 5) that a visitor from Japan, Hiromu Miyajima, has gone missing after he was last seen around 10:15 a.m. today near Canada Place in Coal Harbour.

He is described an Asian male who is 157 centimetres (five-feet, two-inches) tall with a slim build and short grey hair.

When he was last seen, he was wearing a long dark navy blue down jacket, black pants, and black shoes. He may be wearing a surgical mask.

He walks slowly, often stopping to sit down.

As he is unfamiliar with the area, has dementia, and has very limited English-speaking ability, family members are concerned for his well-being.

Anyone who sees him should call 911 and remain with him until first responders arrive.
