Milos Raonic leads Canada into Davis Cup play at UBC

      Canada against Spain in tennis usually has mismatch written all over it. But not this weekend. With Spanish stars Rafael Nadal and David Ferrerthe fourth and fifth ranked players in the worldelecting not to represent their country, Canada will never have a better chance to pull off an upset of the top-ranked country in the annual international team competition.

      Canada will trot out Milos Raonic in the opening match at 1 p.m. Friday (February 1). The world number 15 will try to use his big serve and power game to stake Canada to an early lead against Spain's Albert Ramos. That match will be followed by Frank Dancevic of Niagara Falls, Ontario against Marcel Granollers, ranked 34th in the world.

      Saturday's doubles match features Canadian veteran Daniel Nestor and his partner Vernon-born, Vancouver-raised Vasek Pospisil against Granollers and Marc Lopez.

      On Sunday (February 3), the singles match-ups will be flipped with Raonic facing Granollers and Dancevic going up against Ramos. Best three our of five takes the weekend with the winner advancing to the Davis Cup quarter-finals.

      Canada has never advanced beyond the opening round of the world group stage. Spain has won five of the past dozen Davis Cup titles.
