Housing sales have slowed significantly in Vancouver over the past year, but that hasn’t stopped rezoning applications from coming forward to City Hall. Two public hearings and three open houses are scheduled for early April in connection with five proposed projects.

The largest is a 404-unit mixed-use development at 2220 Kingsway. The application by Henriquez Partners Architects includes 30,866 square metres of residential and 4,853 square metres of commercial space. The public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. on April 9 in the Vancouver council chamber.

The same night in the same location, a public hearing will take place for Fletcher & Company Municipal Consulting’s rezoning application for 4899 Heather Street. The company is hoping to build nine social-housing units, office space, and a chapel at the corner of West 33rd Avenue.

Meanwhile, GBL Architects has proposed a six-storey mixed-use building with 77 rental units in the 1500 block of Kingsway. The applicant is seeking approval for 655 square metres of commercial space and 4,489 square metres of residential space. An open house is scheduled for Tuesday (April 2) from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the seniors lounge at Kensington Community Centre (5175 Dumfries Street).

Another rezoning application is for a property at 960 Kingsway, where Matthew Cheng Architects is seeking approval for a six-storey mixed-use building. It would include 39 residential units on the top five floors and commercial/retail space on the ground floor. An open house is scheduled for Wednesday (April 3) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Glad Tidings Church (3456 Fraser Street).

There’s also an open house in connection with Dava Developments’ application to rezone 4139 to 4187 Cambie Street for two six-storey residential buildings and one two-storey townhouse complex. If approved, the project would include 65 apartment units and 11 townhouses. The public can learn more between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. next Thursday (April 4) at Douglas Park Community Centre (801 West 22nd Avenue).
