Donald Trump announces Trump International Hotel & Tower Vancouver

Vancouver is the latest city to house the Trump family name. At a news conference today (June 19), Donald Trump—alongside his three oldest children Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Eric Trump—announced the Trump International Hotel & Tower Vancouver, a joint project with Vancouver real estate developers Holborn Group and TA Global.

“We’re looking to have this be something very, very special,” Donald Trump said to reporters. "I believe it’s going to be a fantastic success. I love Vancouver and the people who live here. We had another opportunity in Vancouver and this is the one we chose. And we’re going to make it the best.”

The 63-storey tower located on the 1100 block of West Georgia Street will include a 147-room hotel, 218 residential suites, a restaurant, champagne bar, fitness centre, conference and banquet rooms, and Vancouver’s first pool bar and night club. The building, which comes at a $360-million price tag and is scheduled to be completed fall 2016, will also feature Canada’s first Mar-A-Largo Spa, a boutique spa designed by Ivanka Trump.

“It will maintain its original and striking, twisting Arthur Erickson design, and we have worked tirelessly to ensure that everything inside the building matches the grandeur of the exterior,” Joo Kim Tiah, the president and CEO of Holborn Group, stated at the news conference. “The architectural twist is not only stunning on the outside, but ensures that each unit has a distinctive view from the inside. Because of this design, there is a focus on the windows, allowing even the smallest unit to boast expensive views.”

The Holborn Group had originally planned for the Ritz-Carlton to build a 58-storey twisting tower; however, in 2008, construction of the luxury hotel and condo tower was halted.

“It was a bleak time for the global real-estate market,” Tiah said. “What I learned during that time was that I wasn’t the only one who was disappointed. Whenever I talked to someone with regards to this project, I could sense their disappointment. They all really wanted to see this building built and to see what it could bring to Vancouver. For some reason, this building meant so much more to Vancouverites than any building that preceded it. Perhaps it’s the iconic twisting structure and emotional connection to Arthur Erickson’s architectural legacy in his home country.”

Tiah noted that the Trump family strongly believes in Vancouver, and that is why they agreed to associate their name with the new project.

“It’s an amazing place. It’s a beautiful place, and we’re going to make it more beautiful,” Trump stated. “It is a very expensive building to build, but I think it’ll be one of the great buildings not only in Canada, not only in the United States, anywhere in the world. It’s that good.”

If Trump's new hotel results in more jobs for Vancouverites and benefits our tourism industry, then yes, it's definitely worth it!

According to ABC news, Donald Trump's companies have declared bankruptcy 4 times.

He's a reality TV star and was probably paid for his appearance here.

I wouldn't be holding my breath for "one of the great buildings...anywhere in the world" or jobs resulting from him being here.

His brand will bring more money, status, jobs and wealth to Vancouver. Of course, the left hates him.

What sort of business would willingly associate with Donald (The Donald) Trump? Multiply-married, and multiply-bankrupt, he is enough to give narcissism a bad name.

In the States he complains about companies that export jobs, but never mentions that his own 'signature' lines of shirts is made in China, and his mattresses in Malaysia.

Adding to that nonsense, the man is a Birther. Although Mr Obama wiped the floor with the foolish Donald at a White House Correspondents' Dinner two years ago, Trump persists in his delusions.

In April of 2011, he announced that he had sent his "investigators" to Hawaii to find "the truth" about Mr Obama's birth. He then said that "you're not going to believe what they're finding", and that their "findings" were "explosive". He promised to release their report "very soon."

More than two years later he has done no such thing. Either he was fibbing about their "findings", or they ended up telling him that it was all rubbish. Or perhaps there were no "investigators" in the first place.

Who would go into business with a delusional Birther conspiracist like Donald Trump?

Isn't he the white trash who's constantly harassing the US president for a birth certificate? Should've barricaded this loudmouth nutcase from our city.

Prediction: It will take ages to fill it. Asians and other rich folks will be the fist in.....but the majority of suites will be empty for a LONG time.

You could say the same thing about an investment by the Colombian drug cartel. Bring your money and we won't ask questions about how sleazy you are.
