Marijuana advocate Dana Larsen wants Tim Hortons to restore access to Sensible B.C. website

The man behind an initiative to legalize marijuana possession has a beef with the Tim Hortons chain.

Dana Larsen, the spokesperson for Sensible B.C., has told the Straight that "company headquarters" told his group to stop holding meetings in its coffee shops.

"I look online and I see plenty of other groups that advertise their meetings at Tim Hortons," he said. "I don't think anybody thinks they're endorsing us because we're meeting there. Certainly, nobody suggested that to me."

Larsen also said that his group's website has been blocked by the Tim Hortons Wi-Fi system inside restaurants.

The website contains information about the initiative, which has been accepted by Elections B.C.

Larsen hopes that those who want marijuana legalized will contact Tim Hortons to ask for access to the website inside its locations.

"If they don't fix it, then yeah, I would say if you support our cause and it's important to you, maybe you should get your coffee somewhere else," Larsen said. "But let's start by talking to Tim Hortons to see if we can resolve this without some sort of boycott or anything. I would rather just have them turn our website back on and then we can just leave it at that."

The company did not respond to the Straight's request for an interview.

Earlier this summer, Tim Hortons apologized after it blocked a gay news site on its Wi-Fi system.

Tim Horton's donuts are manufactured in Ontario, frozen, shipped and defrosted so they can be "freshly" served where ever.

Tim Horton's stance MUST be out of health considerations....after all I'm quite sure their products have absolutely no health implications for consumers.

As a corporate citizen Tim Horton's chooses to exploit foreign workers and displace Canadian workers rather than raise their wages. By blocking gay or pro-de-criminalize web-sites they've just added one more reason to boycott them.

I worked for a tim hortons and frankly dosent surprise me. There a awful company to work for. i guess there policy stands true. even to the top of the chain of command, im not going there for F/A any more way ta be pig hortons!!!!!!!!

tim hortons has always been last on my list. Shit aint even as good as mcdicks and molson canadian is not "THE" canadian beer. fuck all these wanabe canuck companies that don't even delivar on teh goods. at least B.C. bud is quality Canadians can be proud of. May our pot inspire other businesses the world over to give a damn about the custy.
