Site C dam boss Susan Yurkovich will leave B.C. Hydro

B.C. Hydro will part ways with its senior vice president who's in charge of the largest capital project in provincial history.

The Crown utility's spokesperson, Mora Scott, confirmed to the Straight by phone that Susan Yurkovich will stay until the end of June.

"She hasn't actually left yet," Scott said.

Yurkovich was with B.C. Hydro CEO Jessica McDonald and Premier Christy Clark when the government announced last year that the Site C dam project would be built.

It's forecast to cost $8.8 billion and has angered First Nations and other residents in the Peace River, who've taken the province to court over the issue.

Yurkovich, a former Canfor Corporation executive, joined B.C. Hydro in 2006.

According to B.C. Hydro's financial statements, Yurkovich collected $421,355 in remuneration in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014. She also billed the corporation $32,643 in expenses.

A small detail, why? This project is simply not needed to supply power to the province. It will however be a huge windfall for special people close to the Socreds ( Liberals).

Why does a Crown Corporation with a virtual monopoly pay so much to "Executives"?

And no a Monopoly does not have to pay competitive to private sector Corporations.

Besides how much long term debt does Hydro have given the forced above market rate contracts? How many Billions are you and I paying for?

Is that why our Hydro rates go up so much? To pay for all that Debt for the above Market rate power contracts to private power producers.

Would be nice if any business could be guaranteed above market rates for the product/service they deliver is that the "Free" market the Neo-Cons pro Corporate harp on about? :)

She must be a very smart lady to leave bc hydro ahead of the site c planned building. There will be sooooo very much opposition to this un-neccesary dam that will destroy more territory and animals, for what LNG and Tar Sands extraction? They have already said B.C. does not need the power, so its just or a few to make huge $$$ and the heck with the rest of us and the environment.

"Crown Dollars" clearly you don't work in industry. I however do and have worked in the public sector, non profit, and private sector. What I can tell you about my experience over the last 20 years is that you will not make any money working for non profit or public. You can easily earn 20-30k more a year and there is a lot less red tape to deal with. The public sector can't afford to pay rates that are as competitive and that's why most us choose not to work in the public. Personslly I think the CEOof hydro should leave. She could be making well over a million if she were in the private sector. Her salary of $400k is pathetic for the energy industry. Check out the compensation of some of the top dogs in the Alberta energy industry and they don't pay sales tax!
