Telus Garden gets video projection screen
On June 25, Vancouver city council approved an application to place a 7.5-metre-by-11-metre retractable video screen on the west side of Telus Garden.
The 22-storey Telus Garden office building faces West Georgia Street between Richards and Seymour streets. There’s also a 47-storey residential tower in the complex, which was developed by Westbank Projects.
The video projection would be between the 16th and 18th floors on the west side of Telus Garden. Images would be turned on at dusk and turned off at 11 p.m.
“The proposed screen will feature video art and community programming, as well as limited tenant recognition for Telus Garden tenants who sponsor video programming,” a city staff report states. “There will be no advertising for products or services.”
The application was filed by Henriquez Partners Architects on behalf of a partnership between Westbank Properties and Telus. Eight councillors and Mayor Gregor Robertson voted in favour, with Green councillor Adriane Carr opposed. Councillors Elizabeth Ball and Kerry Jang missed the meeting for medical reasons.

This entire project is a Gillespie-Robertson joint and has been given every benefit of zoning changes due to those who are so generous with money and property towards the ruling party. I still cannot comprehend how they are allowed to overhang the street, and the funny thing is that I knew who was developing it when I saw the plan without reading a single word. Mayor Gillespie-Robertson has consistently given Westbank every break possible over the objections of residents but the applause of Vision drones tallying the benefits of such a strong association. I wish someone besides The Courier would devote time to putting together the web of Gillespie companies and the various relations with the city, the mayor, and Vision. Gillespie and his companies have been beneficiaries of many decisions by the city, including subsidies and exclusive contracts to provide services to new projects. This is all in the public record and with more time a person paid to actually investigate rather than regurgitate press releases could find out some very interesting links.

Perhaps eventually they can project images of the mountains and sky that we used to be able to see from downtown.
