Vasek Pospisil moved one step closer to adding a Wimbledon singles crown to the doubles title he won last year.

The Vancouver tennis star defeated Britain's James Ward in five sets, moving to the fourth round of the fabled tennis London tournament.

Pospisil, who was born in Vernon, posted 19 aces in his 6-4, 3-6, 2-6, 6-3, 8-6 victory.

Last year, he captured the doubles championship with partner Jack Sock.

Pospisil is Canada's second-highest ranked Canadian men's tennis player.

The top-ranked Canadian men's player, Milos Raonic, was upset by Australia's Nick Kyrgios yesterday in the third round at Wimbledon.

The top-ranked Canadian female tennis player, Eugenie Bouchard, lost in the opening round at Wimbledon to Duan Ying-Ying of China.
