Federal Conservatives slower than NDP and Liberals in highlighting candidates in Vancouver

While the New Democrats and Liberals appear ready for the federal election in Vancouver, the ruling Conservatives still haven't shown signs of nominating a candidate in Vancouver East.

The Harper team has named four candidates in the province's largest city: MP Wai Young (Vancouver South), Jojo Quimpo (Vancouver Kingsway), and Erinn Broshko (Vancouver Granville).

On August 6, the Conservatives will nominate a candidate in Vancouver Quadra. As the Straight has previously reported, bookstore employee Kanman Wong is competing against lawyer Blair Lockhart.

The party's website in Vancouver Centre notes that there are only 86 days until the election but has nothing to say about the candidate. Allan's own website provides more information.

The Conservatives' Vancouver East Facebook page has four photos of Stephen Harper, three "likes", and no information about prospective candidates.

Meanwhile, the federal New Democrats have four nominated candidates in the six Vancouver ridings: MP Don Davies (Vancouver Kingsway), Jenny Kwan (Vancouver East), Constance Barnes (Vancouver Centre) and Scott Andrews (Vancouver Quadra).

In the two remaining Vancouver ridings, NDP candidates will be elected this week.

In Vancouver South, banker Craig Langston, union employee Amandeep Nijjar, and accountant Kaivalya Patel are all seeking the NDP nod. Members will choose their candidate on Tuesday (July 28) evening at the South Vancouver Adult Centre (3076 East 49th Avenue).

Mira Oreck, a former Vision Vancouver campaign strategist, is competing against pharmacist Ahmad Wali in Vancouver Granville. The candidate will be chosen on Wednesday (July 29) evening at Peggy Gunn Woodland Hall at VanDusen Gardens.

The federal Liberals have nominated candidates in all six Vancouver ridings: MP Hedy Fry (Vancouver Centre), MP Joyce Murray (Vancouver Quadra), Edward G. Wong (Vancouver East), Jody Wilson-Raybould (Vancouver Granville), Harjit Sajjan (Vancouver South), and Stephen Kou (Vancouver Kingsway).

The Green Party of Canada website lists two nominated candidates in Vancouver: Lisa Barrett (Vancouver Centre) and Wes Regan (Vancouver East).

The Cons simply can't find any suitable losers to step up to the slaughter.

I am not seeing any viable choices from any of our 'political' parties.
Same kind of people doing the same things expecting a different result.
      Thats democracy?
Maybe for the elite with the brown paper bags after but please...

They don't really have anyone to nominate here. Vancouver (and BC) is pure orange.

Mai Young thinks Harper is Jesus resurrected. Do you want this Reformist MP to represent your riding ?
