The Independent Investigations Office has launched a probe into a police-involved death near the border between Vancouver and Burnaby.

Vancouver police were dealing with a man causing a disturbance in the 3600 block of Southeast Marine Drive on Tuesday afternoon.

Following a struggle, the man died at the scene and six officers were sent to hospital. Two suffered "significant injuries", according to a VPD news release.

"As the first officer on scene attempted to detain him, he became agitated and additional officers were called to the scene," the VPD stated. "Attempts to subdue the man with chemical agents were unsuccessful."
