There are just a few days left before the registration price increases for this November’s Great Climate Race. It aims to crowdfund support for local renewable-energy projects.

Race cofounder Ben West and his partner Mari McMillan created the Renewable Energy Fund as a nonprofit organization with a goal of generating $100,000.

Participants in the Great Climate Race will provide the legwork by running or walking 10 kilometres around the Stanley Park Seawall or by running or walking two kilometres in a loop around Lost Lagoon.

On September 15, the 10K entry fee increases from $65 to $70 and the 2K goes from $30 to $35. A portion of the registration and all money raised by participants from their supporters will boost B.C.’s solar-power sector.

The Great Climate Race will take place three weeks before the COP21 climate summit begins in Paris. At the end of November and in early December, world leaders will meet in the French capital to try to reach a consensus on reducing greenhouse-gas emissions.
