Deepa Mehta, Kim Campbell to get SFU honorary degrees

      Simon Fraser University plans to grant an honorary degree to the filmmaker who directed Bollywood/Hollywood, Water, and Midnight's Children.

      Canada's first female prime minister is also on SFU's list of honorary-degree recipients for 2014.

      The university announced today (March 17) that Deepa Mehta will be honoured in October, and Kim Campbell will receive her degree in June.

      Retired Vancouver Sun business columnist David Baines, designer John Maeda, and experimental psychologist Steven Pinker are also slated to be presented with honorary degrees during convocation ceremonies in June.

      In October, SFU will also confer honorary degrees on Maori development researcher Mason Durie, and Ahmed Zewail, the 1999 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry.
