The Vancouver Police Department's collision unit continues to investigate circumstances around the fatality of a 23-year-old woman in downtown Vancouver on Saturday (January 9).

She fell from a party bus around 9:30 p.m. and was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics. Her name has not been released.

"It is early in the investigation, but it appears that a group of approximately 24 people were celebrating a birthday inside the bus," a VPD news release stated. "As the bus turned south on Burrard Street, after travelling west on West Hastings Street, the woman, who was inside the bus, fell from an open door to the street where she was struck by the bus."

The driver stopped as soon as he was notified by passengers. He's cooperating with police.
