Environmental campaigners with ForestEthics Advocacy say it's difficult for them to trust that Christy Clark will protect the B.C. coast, seeing as she's been linked to a firm that did lobbying for Enbridge.

“Given how important the issue of pipelines was to voters in the last election Premier Clark really should have been straight with the people of BC about her history with this controversial company and their reviled project,” Ben West, tar sands campaign director for ForestEthics, said in a news release. “The only way she can really save face now would be to publicly call on Stephen Harper to reject this pipeline and to make it clear that she will do everything in her power as Premier to stop it.”

Today (April 1), the Vancouver Observer reported that Clark was a partner in Burrard Communications, which lobbied the federal government on behalf of Enbridge and its controversial Northern Gateway pipeline project.

Burrard, cofounded by Clark's ex-husband Mark Marissen, was registered as being located at her Port Moody address for a time.

The Observer quoted Sam Oliphant, the premier's press secretary, as responding that Clark "never worked for Enbridge and by the time she briefly worked at Burrard, Enbridge was no longer a client".

Clark was with Burrard during her time away from provincial politics, but while she was involved with the media.

After leaving the Gordon Campbell government in 2005, she hosted her own talk show on CKNW from 2007 to 2010, when she entered the Liberal leadership race that crowned her as premier.
