One of Vancouver's best-known environmentalists has a new job.

Ben West has been appointed as executive director of Tanker Free B.C.

It was created in 2009 to oppose Kinder Morgan's plan to triple the amount of oil it ships from Alberta to the Lower Mainland. If the company's pipeline application is approved, it would result in more than 300 additional oil tankers travelling through Burrard Inlet every year.

West, 37, has previously worked for ForestEthics Advocacy and the Wilderness Committee, where he distinguished himself as a community organizer.

He's been especially adept at encouraging young people to get involved in environmental issues.

“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to work with Tanker Free B.C.,” West said in a news release. “At this vital moment in Canadian history, as we debate the next generation of energy and transportation infrastructure in this country, I feel privileged to play a leadership role in this important organization”.

He was once deputy leader of the B.C. Green party, but in the last election, he supported the B.C. NDP.

Good thing he moved to the NDP. If you vote Green for the federal election you may as well send a check to Enbridge, Kinder Morgan and Stephen Harper.

No tar sands tankers for BC coastal waters, because there is no world-class equipment to clean-up a toxic, tar sands spill. The tar sands will kill the whales.

No tankers is great, but can ANY realistic candidate hold to that position? Look what Adrian Dix and his flip on pipelines.

dear Ben......I wonder if you could say hello to George Soros for me. Tell him there are some of us still dedicated to stopping all Kinder Morgan shipments completely. That is the only option that will prevent a catastrophic oil spill in Burrard Inlet and the Salish Sea. Tell him we are not influenced by his subtle brainwashing techniques for the weak minded and have the ability to cut thru the nonsense and focus on the real problem.....the next actual supertanker shipment, That is what will potentially destroy Lotus Land, not any of the other ruses that sheeples focus on.
You're in good company Ben. George and his backers have been very successful in keeping everybodys mind off stopping the next supertanker shipment. They shut Greenpeace up. They shut Suzuki up. They shut all conservationist writers in BC up. It's easy for you Ben, just keep talking about pipe-dreams like Enbridge and Transmountain twinning and you can keep the money rolling in.
Remember the rule Ben....never, never talk about Kinder Morgans twice weekly shipments of 80 million gallons of destruction, always talk about non-existant pipelines and you will be able to support you and your family members very nicely.
