(Editor's note: The Alex Fraser Bridge re-opened around 5:30 p.m.)

One of Metro Vancouver's major Fraser River crossings is bereft of holiday traffic.

The Alex Fraser Bridge has been temporarily closed in both directions to prevent vehicles from being pelted by ice bombs coming from above.

The bridge links North Delta with Queensborough.

This has led to long lineups along Highway 99 on both sides of the George Massey Tunnel.

Traffic is moving smoothly across the Pattullo Bridge linking New Westminster with North Surrey.

In other snow-related news, Simon Fraser University will close its Burnaby campus today from 3 p.m. onward.

This will follow completion of the current exam period.

Tests will be rescheduled for who are scheduled to write exames starting at 3:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. today at the Burnaby cmapus.

SFU will make an announcement at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday (December 11) on its website and over its Twitter account if exams will take place tomorrow.
