Alex Fraser Bridge closed in both directions

      (Editor's note: Just before 6 p.m., the northbound and southbound left lanes were reopened on the Alex Fraser Bridge.)

      A major Fraser River crossing has just been closed due to "winter conditions".

      The Alex Fraser Bridge connects Queensborough and Richmond with North Delta and is one of the most popular ways to get to Surrey.

      But motorists have been advised this afternoon to use other routes.

      A tweet from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure provided no details.

      Nearly an hour before the shutdown, CKNW reporter Emily Lazatin tweeted that she's been hearing reports of ice bombs on the bridge.
