BC Hydro crews are going to be kept busy today (October 17). As of 9:30 a.m., more than 28,000 Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast customers were without power as a storm battered the region.

Heavy rain and strong winds knocked out lines and damaged equipment, resulting in blackouts in dozens of areas across the region.

A BC Hydro map of power outages shows that the cities of Vancouver, Richmond, and Burnaby, are, for now, among the areas least affected by the storm. Maple Ridge, Langley, and Abbotsford, are faring a little worse.

Another 6,000 hydro customers on Vancouver Island were also without power at the time of writing.
