Vancouver police have issued their second warning in four months about the same high-risk sex offender.

According to a VPD news release, a Canada-wide search warrant has been issued for Christopher Schafer, 40, after he failed to return to his residential correctional facility.

In July, the VPD also sought the public's help in finding Shafer when he didn't return to his Vancouver halfway house.

"Schafer has a long criminal history that includes break-and-enter, sexual offences, uttering threats, robbery, and assaulting a peace officer," the VPD stated. "He has had his community release  revoked on a number of occasions."

Schafer is 5'8", 168 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and a tattoo saying "WANDA LEE' on his neck.

The former Yukon resident was twice convicted of sexual offence with a weapon, the last time in 2002.

He received a five-year sentence in 2003, as well as five years of mandatory supervision.

In 2010, Schafer was also in the news for not returning to his Vancouver residential correctional facility.

He's not the only sex offender who's failed to make curfew at a Vancouver halfway house on three or more occasions.

Last month, the VPD sought the public's help in finding Gerald Richard McLean. That marked the third time since 2013 that he had been the subject of one of these VPD warnings.

McLean was convicted in 2011 on five serious charges against three sex workers, including aggravated assault and unlawful confinement.

The VPD issues warnings about sex offenders who don't return to halfway houses on a steady basis. Often, they're captured after these notifications are issued.
