A full regimental funeral is underway for Const. John Davidson, the Abbotsford police officer who was shot and killed on November 6.

Approximately 8,000 first responders joined in the memorial for a man admired for his kindness to children, his athleticism, and his devotion to his family.

After a march through the Fraser Valley city, mourners have gathered in a celebration of his life at the Abbotsford Centre.

Prior to becoming a police officer in England in 1994, Davidson worked as a relief teacher. He moved to Canada in 2006 and became a member of the Abbotsford police.

Sgt. Jason Scott described Davidson as an "officer and a gentleman", as well as a man who was so polite that motorists would thank him after he gave them a ticket.
