Conservation officials have issued a warning for anyone walking or picking berries in an area of Pitt Meadows to take precautions after a body was found.

Emergency Health Services notified Ridge Meadows RCMP about the discovery of a female body in a field in the 20000 block of Old Dewdney Trunk Road in Pitt Meadows around 12:40 p.m. on August 15, at which point roads were closed in the area during evidence collection.

As the cause of death remained unclear, RCMP called in the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

Ridge Meadows RCMP stated that police do not believe this death is related to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

Police have not yet stated if the victim has been identified.

IHIT Cpl. Tim Pierotti stated that investigators are waiting for autopsy results from the B.C. Coroners Service to determine the cause and manner of death.

IHIT also stated that as the body appears to have been possibly disturbed by an animal, investigators are working with the Conservation Officer Service of B.C.

More details will be issued by IHIT when they become available.
