Opponents of Trumpism were celebrating across the United States after Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were declared elected by U.S. networks.

But in the midst of the partying, the representative of New York's 14th congressional district issued a warning to Democrats: their base is not the enemy.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez maintained over Twitter that Trump "routinely targeted" some of the most popular progressive people and social movements.

According to her, that's because the president wanted Democrats to "run away from our strongest assets".

"Strategy can be nuanced & we're a big tent, but we don't have to run scared all the time. Be proud."

She made this comment after Trump based much of his campaign in Minnesota against Democratic Party firebrand Ilhan Omar, who was reelected in her district.

"Many Dems in DC believed him, & marginalized her," Ocasio-Cortez stated.

She was especially critical of former Republican governor John Kasich, who is rumoured to be in line for a spot in Biden's cabinet.

In a CNN interview on the weekend, Kasich claimed that the far left in the Democratic Party almost cost Biden the election.

That drew a sharp rebuke from Ocasio-Cortez, who noted that Kasich failed to deliver Ohio to the Democrats.

She pointed out that Omar, on the other hand, played a key role in Minnesota remaining in the Democratic Party fold.

"People don't take these people [like Kasich] seriously and go back to celebrating and building power," Ocasio-Cortez stated.

Here are some of her other tweets along these lines.
