If you saw a large police presence in Stanley Park this weekend, involving an air search, it was related to a break-in attempt on the North Shore.

The West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) stated today (May 31) that at 10 p.m. on May 29, officers responded to a 911 call from a homeowner about someone trying to break into their house through the front door in the 1400 block of Chartwell Drive in West Vancouver.

When the homeowner called out, the suspect fled. The suspects didn’t gain entry to the residence.

Police set up a containment area immediately and located the suspect vehicle as it was idling nearby before it fled at a high rate of speed.

The WVPD stated that the vehicle was “observed driving extremely dangerously” and even drove the wrong way on Highway 1 as it attempted to avoid a police roadblock.

Police Air Services helicopter Air 1 tracked the suspect vehicle across the Lions Gate Bridge and into Stanley Park, where the suspects fled on foot.

The Vancouver Police Department assisted in a search through the park.

Although the suspects weren’t found, the unoccupied vehicle was located in Stanley Park, and it was seized for the investigation.

      This investigation remains ongoing.
