B.C. Liberal leadership candidate Kevin Falcon rips into Premier John Horgan for taking holiday during wildfire crisis

According to former cabinet minister Kevin Falcon, B.C.'s premier has been "missing in action" as more than 260 wildfires are burning across the province.

Falcon, who's currently seeking the B.C. Liberal leadership, has demanded that Horgan return from his vacation and provide further support to communities affected by the blazes.

“In this moment of crisis, people need to know that our leaders have their backs," Falcon said.

The B.C. Liberal leadership candidate claimed that Horgan has been away "while fires have burned entire towns to the ground".

“Premier, I implore you to support British Columbians by providing communities with much-needed resources to protect us from more loss of life and allow us to salvage the homes and towns that remain," Falcon said.

On August 16, Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth said that Horgan is receiving daily briefings while on holiday.

“Our premier has been in complete solidarity with all the people of British Columbia, whether they have been affected by wildfires or if they are fighting the wildfires on the ground,” Farnworth insisted.

Horgan has also come under fire from another B.C. Liberal leadership candidate, Renee Merrifield, who represents Kelowna-Mission.

In 2019, Australian prime minister Scott Morrison took a holiday to Hawaii while large parts of his country were ungulfed in wildfires.

Upon his return to Sydney, Morrison publicly apologized for leaving Australia while it was facing this crisis.
