The Royal Communications office has issued a four-sentence statement this morning in the wake of an interview seen around the world.

Earlier this week, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry told Oprah Winfrey that someone in the Royal household—and not Queen Elizabeth or the Duke of Edinburgh—expressed concern about the skin colour of their son Archie before he was born.

In addition, Meghan and Harry said that they received no support in response to Meghan having suicidal thoughts.

"The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan," Buckingham Palace said.

"The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning," it continues. "While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

"Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members."

The statement stands in contrast to Harry's claim to Oprah that his father, Prince Charles, refused to take his calls.

Harry and Meghan also said that the Royal Family revoked their security while they were on Vancouver Island despite receiving death threats.
