The Vancouver Canucks are betting a big sum of money on their sixth-highest point scorer last year.

Today, the team announced that it had inked a three-year deal with right winger Brock Boeser, who scored 23 goals and posted 23 assists in 71 games last year.

According to the Canucks, the contract is worth $6.65 million per season.

"He is a very talented player and has been an effective goal scorer throughout his entire career," Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said in a news release.

"We look forward to seeing his game progress in the years to come," Allvin continued. "Now that his contract is in place for three seasons, Brock can shift his entire focus to his on-ice performance."

Boeser, 25, was drafted as the 23rd pick in the first round in the 2015 entry draft.

In 2017-18, he scored 29 goals and recorded 55 points in his first full season with the Canucks.  He followed that up with 26 goals and 30 assists in the next season.

Boeser's scoring output dropped in the next three seasons as he coped with injuries and his father's serious health problems.

Last season, J.T. Miller led the team with 99 points, followed by Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes with 68. Bo Horvat and Conor Garland each posted 52 points.

According to capfriendly.com, there are three Canucks who will be paid higher salaries than Boeser next season: Hughes, Pettersson, and Oliver Ekman-Larson, who all have deals paying more than $7 million per year.
