Vancouver police are seeking the public's help in finding a car thief.

Just before 3:30 p.m. on November 5, he took a vehicle in the Downtown Eastside while a woman and her three-month-old baby were sleeping inside.

“For a suspect to steal a car while it was occupied with people is exceptionally bold,” VPD media spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin said in a news release. “Thankfully, the woman and her child were physically uninjured and none of their belongings were taken.”

It occurred near Keefer and Abbott streets after a man parked the vehicle.

The suspect hopped in via the unlocked driver door.

Near Science World, he stopped the vehicle and left after the mother woke up.

He's decribed as white, 25 to 35 years old, and was wearing a three-quarter-length winter coat with yellow trim and a yellow logo on the back.

He was also wearing a black hat with a red brim, black pants, and brown shoes.
