A deadly coronavirus has put the Conservative leadership race on ice.

Tonight, party announced that previously scheduled debates on April 17 and 23, as well as the June 27 vote, have all been cancelled.

The Leadership Election Organizing Committee will select new dates after May 1 and the membership deadline to vote has been moved to May 15.

The presumed frontrunners are former cabinet ministers Peter MacKay and Erin O'Toole. Both were lawyers before entering politics.

The other candidates are lawyer Leslyn Lewis and rookie MP Derek Sloan.

Prior to the decision, MacKay tweeted his opposition to delaying the vote.
