Commercial Drive is a bit of a madhouse this afternoon.

That's because fans of the Italian soccer team have converged on the part of the street long associated with immigrants from Italy.

The spark was Italy's victory over England on penalty kicks in the UEFA Euro 2020 final. Italy took the championship on England's home turf at Wembley Stadium

The area of Commercial Drive between Venables and East 1st Avenue is shut down to traffic as soccer fans are roaming all over the street.

The video below offers a glimpse of what's taking place in Vancouver.

Little Italy runs along Commercial Drive from four blocks north and four blocks south of East 1st Avenue. The area is home to many Italian-owned businesses, including Cafe Calabria, Kalena's Shoes and Accessories, Lombardo's Pizzaria Ristorante, Arriva's Ristorante, Sopra Sotto Pizzeria, Da Vinci Travel, and Home Hardware, among others.

Today's celebration offered people of Italian ancestry a chance to celebrate following the postponement of Italian Day on the Drive due to the pandemic. It normally takes place in early June during Italian Heritage Month.
