Earthquake hits Island of Hawai'i on December 14

      An inland earthquake has just occurred on the Island of Hawai’i, which is the largest island in the state of Hawaii.

      It struck at 9:27 a.m. Honolulu time (11:27 a.m. Vancouver time).

      At a depth of 23 kilometres (14 miles), the U.S. Geological Survey measured it as a 4.2-magnitude quake.

      The epicentre was located 21 kilometres (13 miles) southeast of Waimea, Hawaii, 52 kilometres (32 miles) northwest of Hilo, Hawaii; and 288 kilometres (178 miles) southeast of Honolulu.
