Environment Canada has issued another weather alert for the Lower Mainland.

Heavy rainfall is expected across Metro Vancouver from late Tuesday (January 11) morning until Wednesday (January 12) night.

It will range between 50 and 150 millimetres, depending on the location.

Rising freezing levels will also cause more snow to melt, increasing flows in rivers and leading to localized flooding.

A similar alert has been issued for the Sunshine Coast.

"A strong southwest flow will develop on Tuesday and result in an atmospheric river impacting the south coast," the national weather forecaster stated. "Heavy rain will develop later Tuesday morning as the first of several systems embedded in the flow arrives.

"Heavy rain will redevelop at times through Tuesday night and Wednesday as other systems arrive. The heaviest rainfall is expected to fall near the Coast Mountains in favourable, upslope locations."

The snow level will rise from 1,500 metres to 2,000 metres on Tuesday, followed by another increase to 2,500 metres on Wednesday.
