      Investigations into two separate homicides in the Lower Mainland are underway.

      In one case, a person was found dead in an East Vancouver home yesterday while in the other, two suspects have been arrested in relation to a murder in Chilliwack that took place two years ago.

      East Vancouver

      The Vancouver Police Department announced on June 29 that an investigation had been launched after being called about a body discovered inside a home in Fraserview just before 11 a.m. on June 28.

      The residence was located near Victoria Drive and East 49th Avenue.

      The victim was identified as 53-year-old Jin Cai.

      No arrests have been made yet.

      Cai is the ninth homicide victim in Vancouver in 2021.

      Anyone with information about this case is asked to call detectives 604-717-2500 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

      Chilliwack

      After a homicide investigation that has been ongoing for over a year and a half, police have arrested two individuals.

      Around 7 a.m. on November 1 in 2019, Chilliwack RCMP responded to a call about a body located near Sleepy Hollow Road in the Cultus Lake area of Chilliwack. Investigators identified the victim as 26-year-old Jordan Smyth.

      The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took over the case as there was evidence of foul play.

      With assistance from the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, the National Forensic Laboratory Section, and Chilliwack RCMP, IHIT have now attained enough evidence to have charges approved for the murder of Smyth.

      IHIT announced yesterday that this year on June 25, the Abbotsford Police Department, the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team, the Integrated Police Dog Services, RCMP Air 1, and the Chilliwack RCMP arrested two suspects and the B.C. Prosecution Service approved charges of first-degree murder for:

      • 24-year-old Darius Commodore from Chilliwack was arrested in Abbotsford;
      • 30-year-old David Geogehgan was living in and arrested in Chilliwack.

      Both suspects are known to police.

      The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact  IHIT at 1-877-551-4448, or by email
