Integrated Homicide Investigation Team called in after shooting death on Highway 1 in Burnaby

      There was a major police incident on Saturday (August 6) near the Kensington exit of Highway 1 in Burnaby.

      One man inside a vehicle died of gunshot wounds and a second man, who was driving, suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound.

      The murder victim has been identified as 18-year-old Meysam Zaki. The driver has not been named.

      According to Burnaby RCMP, one of the occupants called police before pulling over around 2:30 p.m.

      The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has assumed responsibility for this case, which is believed to be linked to a Lower Mainland gang conflict.

      Another vehicle, which police believe is connected to the murder, was set on fire on Eastlawn Drive in Burnaby.

      Investigators do not know where the shooting occurred.

      They're asking anyone who was travelling west on Highway 1 in Burnaby between 2 and 3 p.m. to turn over any dashcam video to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.
