Lifeboat falls from freighter in Vancouver's English Bay: investigation launched

      A marine accident that occurred this week at a freighter moored in Vancouver’s English Bay is under investigation.

      The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) announced today (December 3) that it is sending an investigation team to Vancouver to examine the accidental release of a lifeboat from the bulk carrier Blue Bosporus on December 1.

      The TSB will gather information and provide an assessment of the incident.

      CBC News reported that two crew members were injured in the accident which took place as they were conducting a drill in the covered lifeboat around 1 p.m.

      A mayday was issued as the lifeboat began to sink, according to News 1130. The Kitsilano Coast Guard responded, and reportedly towed the lifeboat to the coast guard base.
