Man arrested after missing 17-year-old Tsawwassen girl found dead

      Delta police has announced the arrest of man following the discovery of the body of a missing 17-year-old girl.

      Police found Maaike Blom deceased at a residence on Tsawwassen First Nations land in the morning of Tuesday (December 7).

      An unidentified adult male was taken into custody in connection with the girl’s death.

      “Her death, while considered suspicious, is believed to be an isolated occurrence,” Delta police  spokesperson Cris Leykauf said in a media release.

      The release indicated that the “investigation is still in the early stages”.

      “We recognize that the public may have many questions, but we ask that investigators be given the opportunity to proceed with their work,” Leykauf said.

      The girl was reported missing from her home on Tsawwassen First Nation land to police on the evening of December 5.

      She was last seen by family members on December 3.

      The Delta Optimist reported December 6 that Blom was described as Caucasian, of slim build, 5’10” tall, and with long wavy red hair and blue eyes.
