Update: Two suspects charged in fatal shooting at Strathcona hotel in Vancouver

      Update (August 11):

      The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) announced today that the B.C. Prosecution Service has approved charges against two suspects in the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Michael Bailey in the London Hotel in Strathcona on July 20.

      The VPD stated that 26-year-old Ba Hui Tran of Vancouver has been charged with one count of manslaughter and 37-year-old Joseph Mason of Vancouver has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.

      Both suspects are in custody and the investigation remains ongoing.

      Today, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) identified 40-year-old Michael Bailey as the victim who was fatally shot at the London Hotel in the Strathcona area around 5 a.m. on July 20.

      Investigators continue to believe that the incident was targeted and the investigation remains ongoing.

      Over the past two days, two separate shootings have taken place: one in Vancouver, in which a man was found dead in a hotel, and one in Surrey, which left one man injured.

      An early morning shooting has claimed the life of one man in the area of Strathcona and Chinatown.  

      The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) announced today that a man in his 40s was shot inside the London Hotel near East Georgia and Main streets around 5 a.m. this morning (July 21).

      According to the VPD, two suspects fled the scene and police have not yet been able to locate them.

      In addition, investigators believe that this incident was a targeted shooting.

      The VPD isn’t releasing the victim’s identity at the moment as next of kin notification is underway.

      This death is the 11th homicide in Vancouver this year.

      Meanwhile in other recent shooting news, Surrey RCMP announced on July 20 that investigators are seeking witnesses of a shooting that took place outside a pub in Whalley reported around 1:14 a.m. on July 19.

      Officers located an injured man suffering from gunshot wounds under the Patullo Bridge.

      He was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

      He is believed to have been shot near the Brownsville Pub in the 11900 block of Old Yale Road.

      Investigators believe that the incident was targeted and the victim is known to police.
