There are only two wildfires of note burning in B.C.'s Coastal Fire Region. But one of them, the Mount Hayes wildfire, has prompted the evacuation of a Fortis natural-gas storage facility.

This fire is 4.5 kilometres northwest of Ladysmith and remained at 70 hectares in size overnight.

According to the B.C. Wildfire Service, it's still classified as "out of control".

In addition to the natural-gas facility west of the fire, there's an evacuation order in place for a nearby fish hatchery to the east.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation. There are currently 39 firefighters, seven helicopters, and four pieces of heavy equipment deployed to fight the wildfire.

Ladysmith is the hometown of former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson. She recently worked with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to distribute thousands of "methane-offset starter kits" to wildfire-ravaged communities in B.C. and the United States. Anderson is an honorary PETA director.

Meanwhile, the second wildfire of note in the Coastal Fire Region is at Mowhokam Creek. It's 4,718 hectares.

The B.C. Wildfire Service says that because of its proximity to the George Road and Lytton Creek wildfires in the Kamloops forest region, it's considered to be part of the "Lytton Creek Complex".

The Mowhokam Creek fire is burning about two kilometres east of Highway 1.

"The Lytton Creek Complex is being managed by an Incident Management Team through the Kamloops Fire Centre," the wildfire service stated. "The IMT is working closely with the Kamloops Fire Centre and the Coastal Fire Centre as this wildfire covers multiple BCWS jurisdictions."
