Pirate Party of Canada links illegal downloads to House of Commons

Movies like The Departed and music like Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger” have been illegally downloaded from the House of Commons, according to the Pirate Party of Canada.

Using Youhavedownloaded.com, the federal political party found that films, music, e-books, and software had been downloaded via 12 IP addresses assigned to the Commons.

That website links BitTorrent downloads to IP addresses, and is similar to services used by industry groups to find targets for copyright-infringement lawsuits, the Pirate party says.

“It’s important to note that this does not necessarily mean that your MP is downloading video games,” the party site states. “The list...demonstrates how easy it could be to be accused of downloading content even if you are innocent. We at the Pirate Party believe that the war on copyright infringement is not a winnable battle. In order for the internet to be free of copyright infringement, we must give up our right to privacy. It’s not worth the trade-off.”

Other downloaded files include the video game Need for Speed: The Run, the software Adobe Premiere Elements 10, and Adele’s albums 19 and 21.

The Pirate party became a registered political party in 2010 and fielded 10 candidates in the 2011 general election.

Let's get rid of this stupid FPTP electoral system so we can actually vote for the parties we like!

I doubt that will change the thinking on the hill, it'll still be "us vs. them/kiss America's ass at every opportunity" mentality from the Cons.

Would be worth a giggle if it were the NDP kids though..
