SONiC music radio station launches in Chilliwack

B.C.'s Lower Mainland has another Top 40 music radio station.

Based in Chilliwack, SONiC began broadcasting today (August 17) at 8:35 a.m.

It's found on the radio at 107.5 FM in Chilliwack, 92.5 FM in Abbotsford, and 104.9 FM in Vancouver.

SONiC is a property of the Rogers Communications conglomerate, which already owns the News1130, Jack FM, Country 107.1, and Star FM radio stations in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, as well as numerous other TV, radio, and print outlets across Canada.

A Rogers Media news release says SONiC will play music from artists such as Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, and Marianas Trench.

The station plans to start off by broadcasting 10,000 songs in a row without commercial interruption.

Nevermind the nattering nabobs of negativity above me. We need more Top 40 music to guide us along our daily activities, shopping, sun tanning, shopping, texting with our fabulous friends, sipping cocktails, shopping, dancing and romancing, such a whirlwind of activity! And what could be a better sound track for such a life than Top 40! Yeah!

Just what vancouver needs, more of the same old bland "music", the same 30 tracks played on an infinite loop (or at least 10,000 times without commercial break!). Looks like mp3s/torrents, youtube & blogs are still going to be the only place to find new music for real music fans.

radio is dead.

my work has sonic radio playing and its friggin amazing! it makes work bearable! I get to hear music from my favorite bands that don't normally get played on Z or the beat (and if they do get played its like once in a blue moon) like simple plan, marianas trench, down with webster & these kids wear crowns! :) LOVE IT!

Just to refresh peoples' memory, commercial radio isn't the way to go for innovative or different music. if you crave something else, go to non-commercial stations like CiTR 101.9, CJSF 90.1 and selected music programs on Co-op Radio 102.7 FM. There are also far better stations online like BBC's 6 Music & Radio Paradise. Don't waste your time with the usual stations. They're owned by corporations who aren't interested in giving you anything different. All they care about is turning a fast buck and then changing the format once again, using the limited number of choices they deem worthy. Forget them and find alternatives. They're out there.

I was at PNE yesterday and your variety of music got my attention. You ROCK the entire place. I like the idea of getting the audience to dance up on your stage. I love the FREE purple T-Shirt I've got (I'm wearing it today!). You guys are my #1 radio station from now on!!!! Best of luck to 104.9 and to all the staff!
