Three former UBC football players arrested and charged in sexual assault case from 2018

      An investigation into an incident that took place over three years ago has led to three male suspects being arrested and charged for sexual assault.

      According to B.C. RCMP, a woman called University RCMP around 4:30 a.m. on November 5, 2018, to report that she had been sexually assaulted by three men at a residence on Acadia Road.

      University RCMP launched an investigation, which was led by the B.C. RCMP Major Crime Section.

      Today (June 5), B.C. RCMP announced that the B.C. Prosecution Service approved charges—the following suspects face one charge each of sexual assault:

      • 24-year-old Ben Cummings;
      • 25-year-old Trivel Pinto;
      • 26-year-old Treymont Levy, who faces an additional charge of voyeurism, or secretly observing or recording nudity or sexual activity.

      The three suspects have been arrested, are in police custody, and will appear in a Richmond provincial court at a date yet to be determined.

      News 1130 confirmed that the three suspects as former UBC football players who are no longer UBC students. 

      B.C. RCMP are not releasing any further information at this time, according to  B.C. RCMP Major Crime Section acting officer-in-charge Supt. Sanjaya Wijayakoon.

      “We understand there may be questions related to the circumstances around this assault but we respect that this matter now is before the court, as such no further information will be provided,” Wijayakoon stated in a news release. “Our priority at this time is to prepare for, and to continue to provide support for the victim through the upcoming court process.”
