Investigators have renewed a call for public help in locating a man from Alberta, who vanished last year en route to Metro Vancouver, after his vehicle was located in the Lower Mainland a few weeks ago.

Upper Fraser Valley RCMP (UFVRD RCMP) originally issued a news release on October 22, 2020, about the disappearance of 32-year-old Jarrett Shane Whitford of Edmonton who was last seen on September 19, 2020, when he stopped to get fuel for his vehicle in Hope, B.C., on his way to North Vancouver.

Today (March 11), the UFVRD RCMP issued a second news release to state that police and his family continue the search for him.

Whitford is described as a white male who is 183 centimetres (six feet) tall and weighs 86 kilograms (189 pounds). He has brown hair and hazel eyes.

He was driving a light grey 2015 Nissan Micra with an Alberta license plate.

Officers located his vehicle on January 21 of this year. It was abandoned in the parking lot of a mall in the 9300 block of Marine Drive in North Vancouver. Investigators believe that the vehicle travelled from Hope to the North Vancouver lot on September 29, 2020.

UFVRD RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail stated in a news release that evidence that has been gathered so far “does not point toward a criminal act”. Cpl. Rail added that investigators are asking anyone in the Capilano area of North Vancouver who may have relevant information to contact police.

Anyone who knows of Whitford’s whereabouts is asked to contact their local police agency or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
